Remove City ID from Verizon LG Cosmos

Remove City ID from Verizon Phone - LG Cosmos
The other day I got the software for my VN250 LG Cosmos updated. It works fine but there is one new 'feature' I do not appreciate. I started getting an annoying pop-up for CityID. CityID tells you where the person is calling from. While I can see the value in such a service I have 2 problems with it; 1) I don't want to pay for it and 2) I did not download it onto my phone.
What this means to me is the annoying age of pop-ups has migrated over to the cell phone world. The big problem I had was there was no way to turn it off. The pop up offered me 2 choices, enroll in the 30 day free trial or remind me again later. I did not want either.
So the hunt began for the 3rd option, deleting the #$%@& pop up. Here's what I found;
For the VN250 LG Cosmos, you navigate to the Media Center. From there select "Browse & Download". Navigate to the City ID item and select options and remove. It gives you the usual 'are you sure' kind of tricks but if you select yes, it will remove the application from your phone and prevent the annoying pop up from ever occurring again.
Enjoy your new found freedom from pop ups on your LG Cosmos.

GusTheRedneck - thanks for stopping by. Were it not for business I'd just get one of the old fashion flip phones that just makes calls. No pop ups no ads, just let me make or take a call. Thanks for the up vote & Happy New Year.
Thanks a lot for this page. worked like a charm. i appreciate it.
Jonathan C - Glad to help.
i have had this city id pop-up bothering me nonstop for 4 days. i had no idea how to get it to stop and it seemed to be coming up with increasing frequency. i am glad i found this post and immediately removed the app. thanks again.

@matt - You are very welcome!

Thanks for the advice on the City ID - got rid of it just like you said.
@ROC...It was my pleasure....
How do I get rid of ads for VZ navigator, city scoop and such from my LG Cosmo Touch? Help-it's really Annoying especially when I did not down load them or want them!!
@Sandy - I don't have the Cosmos Touch. I'm going to guess that it is similar to VN250. There is probably a location where you download and add applications on your phone. That's where you need to find and delete the Verizon Navigator app. Wish I could help more but I'm not familiar with that exact phone. Good luck and let us know what you find.
I got rid of mine too, it was a pain. Go to Browse & downloads and then go to remove...woola!! gone! :)
Thank you SO much for posting this! I was getting very frustrated with seeing this pop-up every time I turned on my phone, and it was only going for 1 day. So glad I don't have to deal with it anymore!
I was having the same problem and I came across your post. But instead of following your instructions I thought I'd give Verizon a call and make them go through the effort of telling me how to uninstall it. Verizon claims they did not push this out as part of an update and that it was most likely installed when my son downloaded and installed a free ringtone from Amazon.
@Helen - No worries Glad to help
@Jon - I can tell you for sure, I've never downloaded an app to my phone so I don't know what to tell you.
Thank you so much.. my 1 year old had activated vznav and I called to cancel it, but I didnt know how to remove it. thanks for the tip, plus I learned how to get rid of that annoying CityID app too!
@Billy - 1 years old and already a phone wiz.... Glad to help.
Thank you for the help to get rid of the annoying pop up.
@Pattie - No problem it is my pleasure.
Thank you so much!! When I took it to the Verizon store, they just told me to upgrade the software, which didn't help. I wish they had told me this!
Thank you for posting this. I am so glad I came across your page :)
@Drew & NV - No Problems. Glad to help.
Thanks so much, that "feature" has been annoying me for months

@ Annoyed...you are soooooooooo welcome.
Thanks a ton, ive been dealing with that stupid thing since i got the phone over a year ago, glad to see it finally go
@Alex - No problem Sorry you didn't find us sooner but at least it's gone now!
It's gonna get worse
Today I received a disturbing post from Verizon - telling me that they will start sending me cell advertising and I do not have the ability to opt out.
Can you imagine the distraction, the complete disregard for privacy, the lost wages from our employees and most important - the safety factor - all phones can be hands free.
If you want a copy in PDF email rwbplastic@hotmail.com
How can this grab for profits be stopped at the expense of our loved ones.
Thank you
@Richard B - There must be some way to opt out. My first thought is to temporarily opt out of texting/data for a while. I used to get the occasional text from them notifying me my bill has been paid or something like that but I told them to block all texts and haven't received anything since. I would like to see the email so I'll send you something off line.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
thank you for this
Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!! I'm so pissed off that this thing keeps popping up all of a sudden. I've had the phone over a year and now it's started doing this.
@Kelly/T/Payullup Mike - Glad to be a help. These apps can be so annoying.
i freaking love you! this thing has been driving me NUTS! only been popping up these last few days and i couldnt figure out why, this phone is almost 2 years old, it used to belong to my mom... not sure if she had the same problem. but thank you! i was about to introduce this stupid thing to a hammer.

I just found out about it over the weekend, and your directions enabled me to correct the problem within a minute. Thanks Again.
@Cameronsdad - No problem Glad to help and it is irritating that they put these things on in the first place.
Thank you! So annoying...who cares what city and state. I called verizon a while back and they said they did not know how to get rid of it hmmmm! Thanks again Tom

Hi Tom T - Pop ups are a real pain in the rear. I have yet to come across a pop up that brings a benefit with it. I even had my cell phone provider remove anyone's ability to send me text messages after I experienced one after another texted advertisements. Yes, pains in the rear! Nice article here. Voted it up and useful. Thanks.
