Transfer Files with LG Cosmos VN270

The LG Cosmos VN270 know as the LG Cosmos Touch is capable of transferring files to and from a PC. Like the LG Cosmos before it, the touch version, this phone has an SD memory port where you can add a microSD memory card. To access this card, you need the USB interface cord and a driver for your PC.

The assumption here is that you've already figured out how to install the microSD card and installed it in your phone. If not, you can buy a MicroSD card starting at around $4-5 online for about 4MB card which should be enough memory for 95% of users. The installation is simple as you need only remove the plastic port cover on the bottom right side of the phone as you look at it from the top down. Slide in the MicroSD card. The card is keyed so it can only be inserted in one direction. Don't push too hard as it should go in fairly easy.

Download LG Cosmos Touch Driver

The next step, before connecting the VN270 Touch to your PC is to download and install the driver. The driver is located on the LG web site and the file is called LG USB modem Driver. The version linked is version 4.8.1.

Download and install the file you your Windows-based PC. Your PC must be running at least Windows 2000 and have USB capabilities. It should follow the normal install process for adding a driver to your machine.

Next turn on your phone with the microSD card installed and plug the USB cable into your PC. Windows should recognize a new device and install the driver.

Accessing Files on LG Cosmos Touch

To access your USB Storage you will need to unlock the screen, go into the tools menu. There you will find the VCast media manager where you can access pictures and music. The media manager allows you to move files easily between your phone and your PC.

On the PC side, the SD Card looks like just another portable thumb drive. You can use the drag and drop features of the windows interface to move file to and from the drive.

Need for SD Card

One question that comes up a lot is regarding transferring files without and SD card. It has been my experience that this can not be done without the SD card. Even though the phone has onboard memory, you need the SD card to transfer files between PC and phone.

Alternative Storage Option (Verizon Customers Only)

For all you Verizon customers, the VN250 phone now comes with a feature called Backup Assistant. It will automatically backup your contacts every night. Additionally it will let you store up to 500Mb into a cloud based storage facility so you can store pictures/videos/music and assorted files. Might be worth a look to save some of those important files and keep contacts safe.
